About TENCEL™ Modal - Sun
About TENCEL™ Modal - Sun
TENCEL™ Modal - Sun is a cellulosic fiber incorporating a dulling agent, which helps to absorb and scatter light instead of merely reflecting it. This unique property ensures that less sunlight reaches the skin directly, reducing the intensity of the sun's rays. As a result, TENCEL™ Modal - Sun fibers enhance the UV protection of the final fabric.
Spinning mills benefit from the fiber properties of TENCEL™ Modal - Sun in the following ways:
- The fiber broadens the yarn portfolio by enabling the development of fabrics that offer enhanced UV protection in the final garment.
- It requires minimal setting changes when replacing other cellulosic or synthetic fibers.
- It is compatible with all spinning technologies, though spinning speed may be limited due to higher fiber brittleness.
- It blends easily with all other fiber types.
- The achievable yarn strengths meet the requirements for both knit and woven applications.
- Its natural moisture regain characteristics help to avoid electrostatic charge during processing.
Fabric mills, dyers and finishers benefit from the fiber properties of TENCEL™ Modal - Sun in the following ways:
- It enables the production of fabrics that enhance UV protection in the final garment.
- It supports endless design possibilities in knits and wovens through blending with all major fiber types.
- It delivers next-level softness for perfect next-to-skin sensations without the need for additional softeners.
- It is certified under OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class 1.
- It blends seamlessly with cotton, allowing for tone-on-tone dyeing, deep dyeing effects, and improved fabric surface evenness due to its mercerization compatibility.
- It benefits from reproducibility in processing.
- It provides higher dimensional and washing stability compared to viscose.
Final garments made with TENCEL™ Modal - Sun offer the following benefits:
- They provide enhanced UV protection of the finished textile garment (when processed in the right way).
- They offer natural moisture management of the fiber, enabling a high wearing comfort.
- They maintain long-lasting softness due to the fiber’s inherent properties.
- They retain long-lasting color depth and brilliance in comparison to cotton.
- They deliver an improved wear & care performance compared to viscose, including better washing durability, wrinkle recovery, and enhanced drape.
- They allow for different levels of softness through a broad range of fiber titers.

Key features overview
Key features overview
Blending
- Ideal blending partner with all major fibers. Preferred for blends with cotton and linen due to its similar dyeability.
General
- Fully traceable in all processing steps due to fiber identification technology.
Spinning
- Suitable for airjet spinning, ring spinning and their adaptions. There are some limitations for open-end spinning.
Fabric
- Used for UV protective clothing because of an incorporated special dulling agent. TENCEL™ Modal - Sun fibers can help to ensure that less sunlight reaches the skin directly and reduce the intensity of the sun´s rays.* *Please note that UV protection of a final textile garment depends not only on the fiber ant its right processing but the right fabric design, like construction, fabric weight, fabric density, color and finishing.
- Recommended for knitted fabrics, however excellent results have also been achieved on woven fabrics.
Processing
- Suitable for easy-care finishing.
- Not positively affected by bio polishing processes.
- Suitable to dye with all common dyestuff and application methods for cellulosic fibers.
- Sensitive to harsh bleaching conditions, however by using optimized bleaching recipes fiber damage can be prevented.
